The “metrological traceability” is one of the supporting pillars of conformity assessment. The German Accreditation Body has adapted its regulations on traceability policy to the requirements of the European Cooperation for Accreditation (EA). Whenever measurements are made and the measurement results are used for conformity assessment, metrological traceability is of central importance. In this way, laboratories and inspection bodies ensure the accuracy of the measured results and the conclusions based on them – such as the correct compliance with limit values. These bodies must therefore prove in an accreditation procedure that the traceability of their measuring instruments complies with international requirements.
